Hello,

I am a private music tutor in Brixton, South London, for both adults and children, beginners and advanced.

Click on an instrument for more information.

As well as being a full time musician and a fully qualified teacher, I have experience working with adults and children of all ages. I worked for three years in primary schools in South London, also running after-school ukulele clubs, before moving into private music tutoring. We can learn in a style of your choosing. I pride myself on making learning fun and as challenging as is desired. I do both 1-on-1 and group lessons.

“Teaching music to young children requires you to look at the way we learn in
great detail and with great care. It encourages you to make the music theory
accessible and the practice enjoyable. My experience in teaching has helped me
to customise learning to meet the student’s needs, letting learners discover things
in their own way and be rewarded and motivated all along the way.”

My students say:

I started taking lessons with Nick about 4 months ago, after two years of teaching myself and getting to a point of not improving. Nick’s style has worked well with me as it has taken me through the theory and made it in enjoyable by linking it to the artists I enjoy. Nick has great all round knowledge of the different artists and music which has been key to my improvement as the lessons have been moulded to my influence and how I want to sound. He is also is very flexible with lessons!

Our daughter is still 4 and by many people would be considered too young to start formal music lessons. However, having known Nick from her time at a nursery with one of his children, she was very keen for him to teach her. In some ways she is still a bit too young, having only just about mastered numbers and letters, but Nick is extremely patient and every week her knowledge and skills increase. He manages to keep things fun enough so that she always wants to go, but still crams loads into each session. He's charming, eloquent, playful and a very skilled, accomplished musician. I would recommend him wholeheartedly as a Ukulele or Guitar teacher.

I started taking guitar lessons with Nick after abortive attempts to teach myself and a couple of lessons with another teacher. His style of teaching is totally different - really engaging, delving into the theory without ever being patronising, and very much built around the style of music I want to play. We've covered everything from Joni Mitchell to Rihanna and I've seen a marked improvement in my playing over the past 6 months. He's also very flexible about scheduling lessons, which is really helpful for someone who works full-time.
Highly recommended!

Nick has been teaching ukulele to my 8-year-old son for a year or so now. He loves the lessons, and we are so impressed with Nick's patient and warm approach to teaching. Highly recommended!

Nick has been teaching my teenage daughter guitar for three years. From a beginner she has progressed such that she writes her own songs with Nick's help and practises whenever she can. She will often use her own pocket money for lessons rather than miss out and comes home happy every week!
I am impressed with his teaching skills, his warm, understated manner and his competitive prices. This teacher is good news!
